Boothbay man charged after alleged illegal scrapping
The Maine State Police arrested a Boothbay man and charged him with a felony arrest after he reportedly received stolen property totaling more than $10,000.
Maine State Police Lt. Aaron Hayden reported that Maxwell Alley of Boothbay was arrested Tuesday, Jan. 6 and charged with felony receiving stolen goods.
Hayden reported that Troop Investigators from Troop D investigated a claim of more than 500 pounds of brass that had been scrapped at a yard in Augusta on Tuesday, Jan. 6. The troopers discovered that the person who allegedly turned in the scrap metal was Alley.
The metal reportedly came from an East Boothbay boatyard where Alley had been employed, and the total cost of the brass is expected to be more than $10,000.
Alley was arrested Tuesday at a different boatyard and charged with receiving stolen goods, which is a Class C felony. Class C crimes are punishable by up to five years in prison and up to a $5,000 fine.
Alley was transported to Kennebec County Jail after his arrest where he was held on $1,500 cash bail.
