Two area 20-year-olds have been arrested and charged with stealing handguns, a Nintendo Wii and a laptop from their neighbor.

Lincoln County Sheriff's Office alleges that Nicholas Hodgdon, of Boothbay, and Benjamin Clifford, of Edgecomb, stole the items from a residence in Boothbay.

Court documents report that Sheriff's Deputy Aaron Beck was sent to investigate a theft of two handguns, the Wii and the laptop from a Butler Road residence on Tuesday, Aug. 12. Later that night Beck received a tip to speak with Hodgdon, who could be found down a 4x4 trail near the Butler Road residence.

Beck interviewed Hodgdon at Clifford's house on Wawenock Road. During the interview, Beck reported hearing a crash from behind the house.

Sheriff's Deputy Jared Mitkus spoke with Clifford inside the house about the crash, and Clifford reportedly admitted to dropping the bag out of the window. Clifford allegedly admitted that Hodgdon showed up at his house with the backpack and he tried to help his friend, according to Beck's report.

When the bag was opened, it was revealed to have the guns, Wii and computer. The items were returned to their owner.

Hodgdon has been charged with Class B theft and Class B burglary while Clifford was charged with theft. Class B crimes carry a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and up to $20,000 fine.
