Update: Boothbay battles house fire, no injuries
Firefighters from the area responded to a house fire at 35 Back River Landing Boothbay at around 7:45 a.m. Saturday morning.
Boothbay firefighters were first on scene, but were quickly supported by Southport, Edgecomb fire departments and other area towns. By 8:45, the visible flames had subsided but firefighters were still were working to put the fire out.
At around 9 a.m., Boothbay Fire Chief Dick Spofford said the house was unoccupied when the fire department arrived and there were no injuries. By 9:10, the fire was under control and contained most to the top floor, but there was a lot of water damage. Southport Fire Chief Gerry Gamage said the State Fire Marshal was on his way to the scene. At around 9:15, Spofford cleared Westport, Wiscasset and Newcastle fire departments from the scene as the fire was under control.
