What is the Boothbay Community Resources Council?
You may have heard the name before. Boothbay Region Community Resources Council is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit that provide persons in need on the Boothbay peninsula (Boothbay, Boothbay Harbor, Edgecomb and Southport) with resources and funds in a confidential and collaborative manner.
There are several different programs that are available to those in need. The Woodchucks provide assistance to those who heat their homes with wood. The Fuel Assistance Program provides a one time delivery of heating fuel each season.
Amy Winston, the Community Navigator, helps residents access resources to meet critical needs such as job searches, paying essential bills, handling domestic violence and physical or mental illness.
The Clothing Closet, located at the Boothbay Harbor Methodist Church, provides free clothing. The Set for Success Back to School Program provides local school children with the tools of education that include notebooks, pens, pencils and backpacks. This program is for every local elementary school student and is not based on financial need.
There are two new programs, Food for Thought, which provides high nutrition and high vitamin foods to children when they are not in school — on weekends and during school breaks and summer vacation, and Good Morning Neighbor, a daily telephone call to those who live alone, enabling each person to be able to live independently.
The BRCRC also collaborates with the Food Pantry, Rebuilding Together and Warming Space Lunches.
All of this costs money and donations are needed to continue funding each program. Checks can be sent to P.O. Box 43, Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538. For more information please call the Amy, Community Navigation, at 207-350-6272 or visit their website at www.boothbayresources.com.
