American Legion Post 36

Mon, 07/15/2024 - 1:00pm

Don’t forget to come to the VA’s Townhall event on geriatric and extended care at the Legion Hall Saturday, July 27 July between 2 and 4 p.m. Don’t come alone. The information that will be provided is important to your family members who will be the ones to help you make the decisions on your extended care that we all are or will be facing in the future.

Yard and Craft Fair

The Yard and Craft fair, once again being held on Boothbay Common, is rapidly approaching. Remember, this is a community event where anyone who wants to have their own yard sale can join us. It is also a craft fair and a number of our local craftspeople have already signed up. If you have items you want to donate to the Legion yard sale tables, either bring them to the Hall and place in the big tent/garage in the back of the Hall or bring to the Boothbay Common on either Friday afternoon, Aug. 9 or before 8 a.m. on the 10th. Best to call the Hall at 633-4487 to make a reservation but that isn’t mandatory. There is plenty of room on the Common so just come.

Capital Campaign

This year the Post is conducting a capital campaign to raise money for some important facility issues that need to be addressed. The parking lot hasn’t been resurfaced since the facility was build in 1996. The cost to resurface and stripe has been estimated at $15,000. For those who have attended events at the Hall, you know that five years ago, thanks to a generous donor, we acquired 125 used but very comfortable chairs.  Some have been repaired and many are not repairable. The time has come to replace them with comfortable chairs and the estimated cost for those is $5,000. Finally, while the Hall’s renovation over the COVID period is still in great shape, the white inside walls and doors that are constantly being bumped into now need to be repainted. The estimated cost for that effort is $3,000.  So, the goal of the Capital Campaign is to raise $24,000. Of course, any company willing to donate their time and talents would be greatly appreciated, and a great tax write off as well. In recognition for their generous donations, all donors will be recognized on our website and on our breakfast TV presentations. For those who donate $500 or more, they will get free advertising space for the 2024-2025 breakfast season. And for donations over $1,000, they will get free advertising space for three years, as well as recognition on our website and social media. The Post facility is a community asset and enjoyed by many. But it takes a community to ensure it remains a facility that can be comfortably enjoyed and used for events like weddings, celebrations of life, and other community activities. So, please help us and send your checks to: Post 36 Corporation, P.O. Box 9, Boothbay, ME 04537.
