American Legion Post 36

Tue, 08/13/2024 - 1:15pm

As you know by now, the rain last Friday and the predicted rain/thunderstorms this past weekend caused us to reschedule the annual Legion fundraiser Yard Sale and Craft Fair We have now scheduled it for Saturday, Oct. 5 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Community Yard Sellers and Crafters, email, text or call David Patch (207.751.5672 or dapatch66@gmail.com) to get on the list so we can notify you of any information you might need to know. There will be plenty of room for all interested in participating so don’t hesitate to sign up, even if it is at the last minute. Again, any questions, contact either Dave Patch or Tom Moroney at 504-638-6987.

Setting up on Friday requires many hands to be prepared for Saturday. Besides moving everything to the Common, all the yard sale items need to be displayed on the tables appropriately. All members of the Post should look at their calendars and commit to Tom/Dave their availability on Friday, especially, and Saturday to actually be a “seller” and “mover” at the event itself.

The Post 36 Corporation started our capital campaign to raise money to replace our chairs, replace tables 10 tables, resurface the parking lot, and freshen up the inside paint, a total of about $25,000. The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 36 kicked it off by a most generous $1,000 donation to the Post! Thank you Auxiliary!! Letters are going out to our local businesses for their support as well. Those who donate will be recognized on our website and on the Breakfast Rolling Presentation. Special recognition for those donating $500 and $1,000 or more, free advertising space for 2024-2025 season plus special recognition on our rolling presentation, website, and Facebook. Our Auxiliary will be the first to be recognized as a $1,000 contributor!

Boothbay V.E.T.S. Inc. is inviting everyone to join them for family-friendly fun, food, and festivities at their annual fundraising barbecue this Saturday, Aug. 17, on Boothbay Common from noon to 3 p.m. Tickets can be purchased with a donation of $15 for adults and kids 11 and under for a donation of $5. Please come and support their mission of getting veterans off the cold hard ground. They are all volunteers and don’t expect pay for their support from fellow veterans. A team is “we”, not “I,” as they say, and you won’t find volunteers more loyal, passionate, committed, or hard-working than at Boothbay V.E.T.S.

Just to make it an even better weekend, on Sunday, Aug. 18, come to the VA Resource Expo and Engagement Session at the Maine Military Museum in South Portland from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Twenty-seven organizations will have displays, including all the VA offices where you can file a claim or sign up for VA healthcare. Maine Veterans in Need (my new non-profit) will be one of the 12 non-VA organizations there. If you have never been to the Maine Military Museum, it is a must see! The Museum/Expo is located at 50 Peary Terrace in S. Portland.
