George Chase has added another title to his collection. In the past year, Chase has served as Edgecomb’s code enforcement officer and school committee member. On May 17, he became a selectman. Chase defeated Timothy Harrington, 92-7, in the municipal election. Chase resigned as CEO and school committee member prior to Friday’s election.

In other results, Planning Board Chairman Rebecca Graham ran unopposed and won re-election, 93-0. Leah Taylor won her first term as a planning board member, running unopposed with 92 votes. Irene Marchenay ran unopposed for a school committee seat and received 85 votes. She succeeds Nichole Price, who decided against seeking a second term.

All four seats are for three-year terms.

Rebecca Brewer ran unopposed for tax collector and received 96 votes. Claudia Coffin ran unopposed for two positions: town clerk and treasurer. She received 94 votes for town clerk and 91 votes for treasurer. Scott Griffin won re-election as road commissioner with 92 votes. All four positions are for one-year terms.

Marchenay will join Jesse White, who was recently appointed to fill Chase’s vacant seat, and School Committee Chairman Heather Sinclair.

Marchenay was born and raised in France. She came to the U.S. as a French exchange student. In 1967, she graduated from a New York high school. Marchenay returned to France following graduation. She attended college in France. She later returned to the U.S. and moved to Edgecomb, in 2016, after being hired as a French teacher at Wiscasset Middle High School.

She is retired and was recruited to run for school committee by a former teaching colleague. “This lady, Heather Sinclair, asked me to run,” Marchenay said. “I’m looking forward to becoming more involved in the community and learning more about the school.”
