letter to the editor

Let’s be civilized

Mon, 09/16/2024 - 3:00pm

Dear Editor:

Lincoln County Republicans have been doing a flag wave on the Wiscasset bridge every Friday afternoon for the past eight weeks. We are generally humbled and inspired by motorists’ reactions. Most folks give us an encouraging honk and a thumbs up. Approximately 20% of motorists keep their eyes focused straight forward and some of those give a thumbs down, but we don’t mind. However, there is the rare group that curse and flip us off even with young children in the vehicle. Unfortunately, last week, after we were done waving our flags, I returned to my car to find that someone had squirted my car door handle with ketchup. While I didn’t observe the vandalism, there were two older women waiting for me to go meet up with the group already on the bridge.

It is unfortunate that the extreme left continues to show their inability to act in a civil manner. Lest we forget that they are the ones that looted and burned our cities and were encouraged to do so by Kamala Harris while she was running for vice president. Never forget what she said in reference to the rioting back then “This is a movement, I’m telling you,” Harris said in an interview with Stephen Colbert. “They’re not going to stop. And everyone beware, because they’re not going to stop. They’re not going to stop before Election Day in November, and they’re not going to stop after Election Day. And that should be — everyone should take note of that, on both levels, that they’re not going to let up, and they should not, and we should not.”

The interview with Stephen Colbert can be found on YouTube -  (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NTg1ynIPGls).

Please consider joining the everyday folks expressing their right to free speech and peacefully waving flags on the Wiscasset bridge every Friday from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Know that the movement that we support has nothing to do with hate, looting or vandalism and everything to do with saving our constitutional rights and protecting our freedom for all Americans.  If you cannot make our flag waves, please join our movement and vote for Donald J. Trump for President on Nov. 5.
