Motor Booty Affair delights hundreds

Tue, 07/02/2024 - 8:30am

The weather gods were smiling once again, when Motor Booty Affair returned to the stage Wednesday, June 26 for the first concert in this year’s Southport Musicfest series.

A sold out all ages crowd of around 500 danced the night away on the lawn of the Newagen Seaside Inn. Local hero, Chip Schwehm was on hand to open the proceedings and get the audience suitably warmed up for the main event. Motor Booty Affair are the first of 3 acts to grace the Musicfest stage this summer with additional concerts on July 17 with Maine’s Spencer Albee and Aug. 14 with The Rupert’s Orchestra.

The premier series was enthusiastically enjoyed by all last summer, and we are excited to bring the community back together for another fantastic set of acts this year. These three outdoor concerts shine a spotlight on our stunning island, inviting neighbors and friends to make timeless memories, and raising funds for much needed community programs.

Last year alone, SIA was able to provide over $42,000 in charitable donations to our community. Providing educational scholarships to learners of all ages, offering confidential assistance for a variety of specific individual needs, enhancing the holiday season for families on the island, as well as supporting vital community assets such as Southport Central School, the Student Aid Fund, the Food Pantry, New Hope MidCoast, Life Flight, the Ambulance Fund and many more are some ways that SIA gives back. Our fundraising goals continue to be ambitious in order to make profoundly positive impacts within our community for generations to come.

This concert series is possible thanks to the continued support of our primary community sponsors: Boothbay Harbor Country Club, Robinson’s Wharf, Newagen Seaside Inn, Southport General Store, J. Edward Knight, Tindal and Callahan, Shacknow Family Foundation and The First National Bank.

Tickets are still available for our final two concerts at southportmusicfest.com for $30 for adults, $15 Children under 12. Children Under 5 are free. Gates opens 5:30 p.m. with local act and bar. Main act 6:30 p.m.
