OOB rolls past Boothbay in football opener

The Old Orchard Beach football team dominated Maine’s eight-man football’s southern conference last season by winning every game except the state final. On Sept. 5, the Sea Gulls opened the season in a similar fashion by besting Boothbay, 80-16. Boothbay coach Ed Crocker described the Sea Gulls as a dominant team similar to last season’s. “I told my players after the game, the rest of the league will probably experience a lot of games like this,” he said.

Crocker described OOB as a veteran team with many players returning from last year’s team. Boothbay scored two touchdowns, one by quarterback Tyson French and another by halfback Aidric Canada. Crocker reported even though OOB has a strong defensive unit, he was pleased his offense scored twice. “They are a great team, but we showed we could move the ball against them,” he said. “At times, our offense looked good, and Tyson did a good job leading the unit. I was happy with that.”

Boothbay has its season home-opener at 7 p.m. Friday versus northern conference foe Ellsworth/Sumner (1-0). Ellsworth/Sumner defeated Washington Academy, 44-28, on Sept. 6.
