Boothbay Harbor started replacing aging pilings at the public landing June 21. Harbormaster Rob Leavitt said the two in the worst condition, which are around 20 years old, were the first to be replaced. He said the project contractor from Fuller Marine Services said worms were the main culprit for the damage. Leavitt said there have been many protocols and steps to make the replacement possible, and the town manager has been on top of the process. Leavitt said the rest of the pilings at the landing will be replaced later this season.
