There is no EV mandate

Mon, 07/22/2024 - 4:15pm

Dear Editor:

Do we want to hand China the keys to the future of car manufacturing?

When former President Trump calls for extending the life of gas powered cars – It’s not patriotic – it’s just bad economic policy. Other countries understand that heat in the atmosphere and the oceans is going to affect our children’s lives. That’s why the BYD car produced in China is the most popular EV in Germany and South Korea. Why isn’t the world clamoring for our EVs? You can buy an EV in China for $10,000. How many middle class families would love a price tag like that for a new car with low emissions?

Promoting the combustion engine is good for one segment of the population – the 1 % who live on the stock dividends of oil and gas companies and want to keep the cash cow going. The physics of global warming has to do with the way carbon and methane molecules trap heat in the atmosphere. Molecules are apolitical. The EV mandate – is a fiction that doesn’t exist.

The $7,500 tax credit for buying an EV is entirely voluntary. A true conservative would let the market dictate our future. This time, our time, calls for American ingenuity and invention, or else we will become the fossils.
