I love a mystery!
Tue, 07/19/2022 - 10:45am

Our unique library is bustling with locals and out of towners looking for something light to read. Being a mystery lover, what would I recommend? There is currently no drama of howling winds, pounding rain, snow squalls, etc. It's balmy breezes, sunshine, and for those who love a challenge it's sailing weather. So let's find a fun mystery to read.

“Mainely Needle Point” and the “Shadows Antique Print” are two popular series by Maine author and local, the late Lea Wait.

“Home Repair is Homicide” by Sarah Graves is a series that follows transplanted New Yorker Jacobia “Jake” Tiptree and her friend Ellie White as they solve murders in Eastport, Maine while repairing her centuries old house.

If you like to bake, Joanne Fluke is best known for her cozy mysteries surrounding small-town baker Hannah Swensen. Her stories include some very good recipes.

Leslie Meier's protagonist is Lucy Stone, a reporter and amateur sleuth in a small fictional town in Cape Cod.

Barbara Ross is the author of the “Maine Clambake” mysteries. The first book in this series “Clammed Up” was nominated for several book awards including Best Award for Amateur Sleuth and was finalist for the Maine Literary Award for Crime Fiction.

A favorite cozy mystery series by Dorothy Cannell stars interior decorator Elle Haskell, Chef/author Ben Haskell and Detective Agency owners, sisters Primrose & Hyacinth Tramwell.

Agatha Raisin is one of the most popular series written by the late B.C. Beaton. The story features an advertising executive who retires to the Coswalds for a quiet life…but finds none.

Miranda James is the pseudonym for Dean James. His popular “Cat in the Stacks” mysteries take place-- where else--but in the library. If that’s for you, Librarian Victoria Gilbert is the author of the “Blue Ridge Library” series. Her protagonist Amy Webber is a crime solving librarian.

Lillian J. Braun (1913-2011) was one of the most prominent authors of American fiction. She was well known for her light hearted writing; her “Cat Who” series starring crime-solving feline heroes is still popular today.

Happy reading mystery lovers!
