Wed, 05/29/2024 - 11:45am

The days are dwindling for attending classes for the 36 members of the Boothbay Region High School Class of 2024. However, a busy two weeks of participating in events and ceremonies lie ahead.

The last day of classes for the seniors is Wednesday, May 29. UPDATED: That evening, some of the seniors will perform at the Spring Chorus Concert at BRHS (moved from Southport Methodist Church) at 6 p.m.

Thursday, May 30 is the first day of marching practice and the class has been invited, once again, to attend Boothbay Harbor Rotary Club’s annual Senior Night dinner at 6 p.m.

Fun and games will begin the day on Friday, May 31 as seniors participate in the Fishermen’s Festival Field Day – an event featuring fun competitions started a few years ago – on Sherman Field (or in the gym if weather forces them inside), following marching practice, which begins at 8 a.m.

On Sunday, June 2 at noon, the senior class has been invited to the Alumni/Masonic Cookout at Barrett’s Park. Parents and guardians of the seniors are invited as well. Hot dogs and hamburgers, salads, dessert and beverages will be provided and donations for the Alumni Association are encouraged.

Marching practice continues on Monday, June 3 and, that evening, area Masons will host another cookout for the seniors at the Masonic Hall in East Boothbay beginning at 6 p.m.

The annual Awards Night (including Donor Books presentations) is Tuesday, June 4 at 6 p.m. in Porter Memorial Gymnasium. The Boothbay Region Student Aid Fund and local organizations will present scholarships and awards. The public is welcome to attend.

No events – just another morning of marching practice – are planned for Wednesday, June 5.

The Grand March will be held Thursday, June 6, at 7 p.m. indoors. The doors will open at 6 p.m., reserved seating for the parents of the graduates only. There is a $5 admission fee, cash only. Tickets are not sold in advance, at the door only. That morning, beginning at 11 a.m., Alumni Association members will be decorating the gym for the Grand March. Others in the community who would like to assist would be more than welcome. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to Lynn Martin at 207-380-5729.

Friday, June 7 is perhaps the busiest day for the Class of 2024. Class Day ceremonies, where the seniors have fun reminiscing about their four years together, begins at 8 a.m. Graduation ceremonies will start at 2 p.m., followed by the Car Parade through downtown Boothbay Harbor and up and around Boothbay Common, at approximately 4 p.m. The day ends with the Project Graduation trip. Seniors will depart the school by bus during the evening and the class will travel to Jackman for a whitewater rafting trip and other weekend activities.
