Marlies Boyd (Maria Elisabeth van den Elzen) passed away peacefully on May 26, 2024.

Marlies was born on May 21, 1949 in Schaesberg, Netherlands. Marlies was born to Peter Joseph van den Elzen and Maria Elisabeth Simons.

At the age of 21, she moved to Scotland where she lived for 14 years. She then moved to Saudi Arabia for two years. After moving back to Scotland she met and married Garry Boyd. Marlies and Garry then settled in East Boothbay for 39 years.

While living in Maine, Marlies worked for many years at the Ocean Point Inn which she truly enjoyed. She also worked part-time at an antique dealership in Damariscotta. Her true passion was tennis, and she became a USTA professional instructor and began teaching tennis locally. In addition to teaching, she played tennis weekly with her numerous playing groups, which was her favorite pastime. Marlies was known as a social butterfly, and loved having lunch and a glass of wine with friends.

Marlies enjoyed spending time with family and friends. When her children were younger, they would take annual trips to Florida for some sun and North Conway to ski. The family also spent a lot of time in the summers on Linekin Bay. Being a dog lover, a lot of time was spent with two pups she loved so much, Biskit and Bogie. In later years, Marlies enjoyed spending time at the Boothbay Harbor Country Club playing golf, or enjoying the sun and a good book by the pool.

A loving mother, Marlies is survived by the two loves of her life, her children Daniel P. Boyd and Jason R. Boyd. Marlies is also survived by her husband R. Garry Boyd; her grandchildren Everly and Piper Boyd, Dan’s significant other Magill Smith, and their dog Sochi; as well as Jason’s significant other Jessica Pierce and their dog Huey.

Per Marlies’ wishes, a full service will not be taking place. A gathering for family and friends will take place at a later time this summer.
