Harold ‘Robbie’ Robinson chosen for ‘Honor Flight Maine’
Harold "Robbie" Robinson, formerly of Boothbay and now a resident of Brunswick, has been accepted for "Honor Flight Maine," a wonderful organization that honors military veterans, primarily those from World War II. He will depart on Friday afternoon, October 30 to Portland with his escort for the weekend, Frank Redman, and spend the evening with other veterans before departing for the airport around 3 a.m. to fly to Washington, D.C. for the day's events. They will start at the World War II Memorial around 9 a.m., and visit all the other veterans memorials in the D.C. area and participate in other planned activities. They will fly back to Portland around 11 a.m. Sunday, for a gala welcome that family, friends and supporters are encouraged to attend.
What can you do? Either attend the "welcome home" ceremony, write a letter thanking Robbie for his service that will be delivered to him on the return flight home during "mail call." The address for your letter should: Honor Flight Maine-Mail Call, Harold Robinson, P.O. Box 10, Waterford, ME 04088. Folks may also send an email message to Robbie at lindale65@hotmail.com, or send him a letter when he gets home. His mailing address is: 42 Neptune Drive, Brunswick, ME 04011. Friends may also call him at 207-557-5401.
Robbie is quite a fascinating guy. He was a Navy seaman in World War II, got out for a while then enlisted in the Coast Guard and was on active duty over 30 more years before retiring. He witnessed the signing ceremonies on the U.S.S. Missouri in WWII in Tokyo Bay from the deck of the massive Japanese battleship, Nagato.
