15th Linekin Ledges Informal Regatta
Geezers and old fogies were crushed by captain Ray Perry sailing Olivia in the 15th Linekin Ledges Informal Regatta held recently. Hundreds of years of accumulated sailing experience was no match for Perry (sailing instructor at Linekin Bay Resort) with Rich and Colette Perry as crew.
Wind was light and fluky with most of the fleet of eight boats stumbling into “dead spots.”
Trivet, captained by Pam Burke, was headed by an east wind as she was rounding the first mark. Baby Bee, last year’s winner, kept getting headed as she was working to the west end of the ledges.
Poppy, very ably captained by Russell Jeppesen, sailed fast and steady for second place. Trivet sauntered over the finish line in third.
A short match race was held, featuring Gemini, captained by Frank Luke with Rusty Court as crew and photographer, Trivet, Ed Roberts’ boat, and Jody Merton’s schooner with no name and menacing red sails.
Captain Peckham and Tammy, sailing What’s Next, said that they sailed in a “different time zone,” but had a great sail nonetheless.
Dinner was served in the quiet woods of Gaul Rock Road. A wonderful spread of food and good cheer by last year’s winners, Dale and Brad Mack, where details of the race were rehashed “ad nauseum” until the agony of defeat was completely dissipated.
