American Legion Post 36
The VA Townhall event is this Saturday, July 27 at 2 p.m. Yes, the event is for veterans but I think it is equally, if not more, important for veteran families and potential care givers. For veterans, we don’t ever think we will need help, or we just don’t want to think about it. But time and age just keeps moving along and the ones that have to deal with not facing it now are our family members. So, family members, even if your veteran doesn’t want to come, come anyway. Everyone needs to know what their time in the service has earned them.
Remember our Legion baseball team, the 36ers? Well, your team is now in the playoffs! Last Friday, the 36ers won against Central Maine Hammond Lumber 4-2 in the southern zone playoffs (kind of like the American League and the National League). This put them in the playoffs when they played Capital Area and won 8-5. Winning this game put us in the southern zone championship game. Unfortunately, this article had to be submitted before the game so I can’t quite celebrate in this article. But, the winner of that game goes to the state tournament where the North teams compete against the South teams. This series starts July 27 and the championship game is on July 31. Go 36ers!
Speaking of Legion baseball, Jeff Lewis, owner of Boothbay Home Improvement, was the lucky winner of the raffle and now has four tickets to watch the Red Sox beat the Yankees on July 27! Congratulations Jeff! And, thanks so much to all of you who support the 36ers by buying raffle tickets!
The Legion community yard sale and craft fair is only two weeks away, Saturday, Aug. 10. Remember, this is a community event so bring your table down to the Common and set up. The sale starts at 8 a.m. but set up starts at 7 a.m. The Legion will be setting up on Friday afternoon so if you want to set up your tent, you can do it then. The cost is only $25 for a 10-foot by 20-foot space. Remember, this is for “yard sellers” and “crafters.” For those donating items to the Legion, you can bring them to the Hall now or wait until Friday/Saturday and just bring them to the Common. For more information call the Hall at 633-4487 to make a reservation, although reservations aren’t mandatory. There is plenty of room on the Common so just come.
Speaking of yard sales, the American Legion Auxiliary is holding their yard sale most Saturdays, weather and other factors permitting, in the parking area at 752 Wiscasset Rd (home of the V.E.T.S. veteran trailer) and where the large Legion sign is located. Lots of stuff there you just can’t live without!
See everyone on Saturday!
