Antonio Maulolo wins state title again
Boothbay Region High School wrestler Antonio Maulolo defended his Class C state title in the 220-pound weight class by pinning Julian Baldinelli in 1:12 at the Class C meet held at Mountain Valley High School on Saturday, Feb. 15.
On his way to the title, Maulolo, a junior at BRHS, defeated Chrisof Fox of Monmouth and Justin Ringuette of PVHS, both on first period pins, before meeting Baldinelli in the final. Last year, Maulolo defeated Job Mesaric of Mt. View to win the title.
According to BRHS coach Allan Crocker, Antonio became just the second Boothbay wrestler to win multiple state championships, and the first state champion on an official Boothbay team since 1996.
Two other BRHS wrestlers, freshman Nick Labonte in the 106-pound weight class and freshman Brandon Andrews in the 145-pound weight class, lost in the consolation round and finished in fourth place.
Other BRHS wrestlers who competed at the meet included Jude Alamo (one win the 132-pound class), Killian Miller (one win in the 160-pound class) and Riley Spear (competed in the 126-pound class).
As a team, Boothbay finished in seventh place out of 16 teams.
