Bayville Buzz

Summer is really in full swing as the weather here has everyone on, in and around the water eating, drinking and soaking up all that makes this area so special.

It seems our sometime resident Flamingo’s fame is spreading. Bird Watchers Today did a feature article on our feathered friend Frankie and his adventures in the Bay. For those of you playing at home, Frankie had gone to parts unknown (the habits of these often reclusive birds are not well known) for about a week after taking up residence on the Gadaboat. As stated in last week’s Buzz, under the cover of darkness (Frankie seems to mainly fly at night) he had reappeared on Mary Alice. A wonderful perch, but short lived, as David and Julie Merrill were headed out the next day on an eight-day cruise down around Vinalhaven, Isleboro, Deer Isle and Muscle Ridge Channel to celebrate their 45th anniversary! Some feel that due to Frankie’s federally protected status, David and Julie should have postponed their romantic getaway until Frankie left of his own accord. Either way, Celebration became the next stop before Frankie was gone again.

Speaking of celebration, this is the week they defend their well earned Friendship Sloop Championship from last year. Go Celebration!

Linda and Thomas Hultin have been busy road tripping around the state. One adventure was to Searsport for a couple of days to celebrate (there’s that word again) Linda’s birthday. Another trip brought them to the Union Fair where the highlight had to be the demolition derby!

A few more notes from the Fourth. Liz Bagonzi had her kids, Allison and Jack - and Jack’s girlfriend, Jenni - visiting. There were the usual laughs.

Please don’t feed the animals - or in this case - the horses. Turns out one of the two has developed a case of equine diabetes, so no more apples, carrots, etc., however,  Mark Spencer does have a special oat mix you are allowed to give, so see him to feed them.

A big round of applause again, for the Boothbay Harbor Band and their music! This year, the band had a new member as Frank and Ann Purcell’s daughter Elena, who is majoring in music education at Appalachian State University, displayed her piccolo playing talents with the band at not only the Bayville parade, but also, at the town common.

Make sure to be here on the weekend of July 27 and 28 for the Pickleball Tournament, Waterfront Festival and Ice Cream Social and of course, the following Saturday, Aug. 3, for the annual BVC meeting, special BIA meeting and Lobster Bake that night. Phil asks everyone to please sign up at the Bayville Post Office ASAP so he knows how many clams, lobsters, etc. to get!

Less importantly, please send some news to thejeffallison@gmail.com
