The Bangor Savings Bank Foundation has announced it has awarded over $191,000 in grants to 23 non-profit organizations across Northern New England.

These grants support various initiatives, from education and housing to food security and community development, reflecting the Foundation’s commitment to enhancing the quality of life in the communities it serves.

Locally, Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences in East Boothbay and Boothbay Region YMCA received grants.

The $5,500 grant award to Bigelow will support the Keller BLOOM (Bigelow Laboratory Orders Of Magnitude) student program and the BLOOM Educators program, inspiring Maine high school students to pursue careers in STEM and equipping teachers with skills to deliver meaningful marine experiences. The Keller BLOOM Program is a one-week immersive experience for Maine high school juniors. At the same time, the BLOOM Educators workshop enhances the ocean science curriculum for middle and high school teachers.

The YMCA’s $7,500 grant will help support the construction, preservation, renovation, and expansion of the McEvoy Lodge childcare space at Camp Knickerbocker, to enhance transformative learning and growth in Maine's youth.

“These organizations deliver educational opportunities, drive economic growth, and enhance community well-being in Northern New England," said Bob Montgomery-Rice, President and CEO of Bangor Savings Bank. "The Bangor Savings Bank Foundation proudly supports initiatives important to our employees, customers, and communities, as well as our local economy.”
