Boothbay defeats Lisbon on Senior Day
The Seahawks battled back from a 2-0 third quarter deficit and went on to defeat the visiting Lisbon Greyhounds, 4-2, in the Senior Day game at Perkins Field, BRHS on Tuesday, Oct. 17.
Lisbon took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Bella Okane with just 15 seconds to play in the half.
The first half saw Boothbay get six penalty corners to Lisbon’s two, but the Greyhounds’ defense kept the Seahawks from getting good shots off on goal.
Avia Rusgo put Lisbon up 2-0 with a goal at 9:02 of the third quarter.
Boothbay then went to work on the offensive end.
Junior Magen Burge scored the first of her three goals with 5:38 to play in the quarter on an assist from junior Lily Nein.
A pair of sophomores hooked up to tie the game with less than a minute to play in the quarter. Ella Watts passed to Rose Campbell in front of the goal and Campbell drove the ball into the cage with just 49 seconds to play in the quarter.
About four minutes into the final quarter, Burge scored unassisted to give Boothbay the lead, 3-2.
Lisbon had several chances to tie the game in the quarter, getting seven penalty corners, but the Seahawks’ defense, led by seniors Meg Sledge, Avery Barter and Charlee Fuchswanz, kept them at bay.
Barter assisted on Burge’s third goal which came with just under five minutes to play.
The game was the final regular season game for both teams. The Seahawks, who defeated Lisbon twice this season, finished with a record of 3-11 and will miss the playoffs, finishing in ninth place in Class C South (the top eight teams are in the playoffs). Lisbon finished the season at 4-9-1 and is seeded in seventh place in the division. They are expected to play second-seeded Winthrop (11-3) in the quarterfinal round.
