Boothbay defeats Telstar for first win
A second quarter goal and a fourth quarter save on a penalty stroke gave the Boothbay Region Seahawks their first win of the season, 1-0, over the visiting Telstar Rebels on Friday, Sept. 22.
The Seahawks got their goal when Magen Burge rebounded a shot off a save by Telstar’s goalie and drove it into the net. The goal came with 5:52 to play in the second quarter.
Boothbay had other chances to score in the game but never got an open look at the empty backboard, as the Telstar goalie stopped several straight on shots by the Seahawks.
With 12:45 to play, Telstar made a rush at the goal and a penalty was called, giving the visitors a chance to tie on a penalty stroke. On the one-on-one play, Seahawk goalie Cass Amaral blocked the shot, securing Boothbay’s lead.
Boothbay improved to 1-5 while Telstar dropped to 0-7.
Boothbay recently lost at Mountain Valley, 3-1, and at Spruce Mountain, 11-1. Scoring against MV was Sarah Kreft and scoring against SM was Kari Blake, off an assist by Ariel Alamo.
The Seahawks’ next home game is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 2 against Oak Hill, following games at Dirigo (Sept. 25) and Lisbon (Sept. 27).
