Boothbay edges Hall-Dale, 2-1
The Boothbay Region High School Seahawks field hockey team moved a bit closer to securing a tournament position with a 2-1 win over the visiting Hall-Dale Bulldogs (1-13) on Wednesday, Oct. 8.
A penalty stroke goal by freshman Sydney Meader at the 15:10 mark of the second half proved to be the winning goal as the teams battled the last quarter of the game without scoring.
Hall-Dale controlled the first half of play, getting several scoring opportunities against Boothbay goalie Erica Eames but only one shot got through. Bulldog co-captain Nicole Pelletier followed up a couple of saves by Eames in front of the net and pushed the ball into the goal. Hall-Dale led at halftime, 1-0.
Twenty seconds into the second half, Boothbay tied the score 1-1 when senior tri-captain Nicole LaBrecque followed up a save by Hall-Dale goalie Molly French and put the ball solidly into the goal.
Meader's penalty stroke came after the ball hit a defender's foot while the defender was on the goal line and the goalie was out in front of the net.
Boothbay (5-6-2) will conclude its regular season on Friday at home against Telstar at 3:30 p.m. Should the Seahawks hang on to it current ninth place standing in the Heal point standings and Mattanawcook (7-5) hold onto eighth place, the two would square off in the tournament prelim game sometime next week.
