Boothbay edges Lisbon, 2-1
Trailing 1-0 with just under 12 minutes to play, the Boothbay Region Seahawks varsity field hockey team scored two goals in less than four minutes and held for a 2-1 win over the Lisbon Greyhounds at Perkins Field at BRHS on Wednesday, Sept. 23.
At the 10:05 mark of the second half, sophomore Sydney Meader fired a centering pass in front of the goal from the right side where junior Nicole Clarke tapped the ball into the goal to tie the game.
Just about three and a half minutes later, sophomore Page Brown took the ball off a long hit and rolled the ball in front of the goal where Meader fired it past the Lisbon goalie to give Boothbay the lead at 7:37. Lisbon was unable to mount a comeback to tie the game.
Sydney Plourde scored Lisbon’s goal at the 12:42 mark of the first half.
Boothbay improves to 4-5 on the season while Lisbon drops to 2-7. The game was rescheduled from October 13.
The Seahawks held a 14 to 11 advantage on shots and 6 to 3 on penalty corners.
Boothbay hits the road, playing at St. Dom’s (5-3) on Saturday and at Dirigo (7-1) on Sept. 30, before returning home to face Winthrop on October 5.
