Boothbay edges Monmouth, 50-47
The Boothbay Region High School girls varsity basketball team improved to 3-0 on the season with a 50-47 win at home over the Monmouth Mustangs Monday night.
With Boothbay leading, 48-47, Faith Blethen drove to the basket and scored – her only field goal of the game – to give Boothbay a three-point lead with less than 30 seconds to play. After a couple of timeouts, Monmouth looked to have its best player, Tia Day, take a three-pointer but Boothbay’s defense forced Day, who had already made four threes in the game, to take an off-balanced shot, which went wide and Boothbay hung on for the win.
Freshman Glory Blethen led the way for the Seahawks, scoring 11 first quarter points and 19 overall. Page Brown had 14 points and Sydney Meader had nine.
Day led Monmouth, now 2-1, with 19 points.
This article has been updated. In the original post, Day was credited with only 16 points.
