Boothbay edges Telstar, 1-0
A goal by freshman Jo Shaw with 4:55 to play held up, as the Boothbay Region High School field hockey team went on to defeat the visiting Telstar Rebels, 1-0, at Perkins Field October 10, in the annual homecoming and senior appreciation game.
Shaw got a good shot off in front of the net after a nice pass from fellow freshman Page Brown. Telstar (6-8) got one more good chance to tie the game in the final minute but missed wide on the shot.
Seahawks coach Donna Jordan had this to say about the game, "As the season progressed we have worked hard to improve individually and as a team. On Friday vs Telstar we saw all that work of individuals come together and I feel we played our best team field hockey of the season. We had a full 60 minutes of focused game play."
Pre-game ceremonies honored tri-captains and team seniors Nicole LaBrecque, Kirsten Latter and Taylor Walby.
Boothbay, which finished the regular season at 6-6-2, will await the outcome of the final Heal point standings. If the standings remain the same as of Monday, Oct. 13, Boothbay will travel to Lincoln to face the Mattanawcook Lynx in a Class C East tournament prelim game on Saturday, Oct. 18 at a time to be announced. Boothbay is in the East division with a couple of other usual Western Maine teams, Hall-Dale and Winthrop, when the Maine Principals' Association needed to fill out the East division several years ago.
