Boothbay edges Winthrop, 61-57
The Boothbay Region Seahawks held on Thursday night for a 61-57 win over the visiting Winthrop Ramblers. The win came one night after the Seahawks lost in overtime at Monmouth on a buzzer-beating shot. The win was Coach I.J. Pinkham’s 599th in his 40-year career.
Boothbay was in control of most of this game, as the Seahawks held an 11-point lead with about two and a half minutes to play, but several turnovers led to Winthrop baskets and the visitors had a chance to tie the game on a three-pointer in the final minute but it didn’t happen.
Senior center Abel Bryer led Boothbay with 19 points, followed by sophomore guard Kyle Ames with 14, junior forward Carter Babcock with 12 and junior guard Jacob Leonard with 10.
Sharp-shooting junior guard Jacob Hickey led Winthrop with 29 points.
Win number 600 for Coach Pinkham could come at Carrabec on Friday, Jan. 22.
