Boothbay falls to Lisbon, hosts Traip next
The Boothbay Region High School Seahawks football team fell to 2-1 on the season after losing to the Lisbon Greyhounds, 40-18, at Lisbon on September 21.
The Greyhounds’ dynamic running duo of Jordan Torres and Quincy Thompson gave the Seahawks fits. Thompson scored three touchdowns on a 70-yard run and two 1-yard runs and Torres scored one touchdown on a four-yard run and added five 2-point conversions.
Boothbay kept with the Greyhounds in the first half, trailing only 16-12 at half-time. After Lisbon went ahead 16-0, Jude Alamo scored on a five-yard run with 6:55 to play in the half. With just 12 seconds to play in the half, Seahawk quarterback Nick Kilgus connected with sophomore Abel Bryer on a 20-yard scoring pass.
Lisbon went up 22-12 at the 8:28 mark of the third quarter on one of Thompson’s one-yard scoring runs and after a blocked punt by Lisbon, the Greyhounds drove 28 yards and Torres scored a touchdown and two-point conversion to give the home team a 32-12 lead.
Senior Jason Maddocks cut the lead to 32-18 with just over two minutes to play in the third quarter as he scored on a 20-yard run up the middle.
The Seahawks couldn’t mount any offensive threat in the fourth quarter and Lisbon ran out the last eight minutes of the game.
Even though the Seahawks slipped to 2-1, Coach Bryan Dionne remains very upbeat.
“We played a great first half,” Dionne said. “But matching their speed was very tough; they wore us down in the second half.”
The Seahawks look to get right back in the win column on Friday night, Sept. 27, as they host the Traip Academy Rangers who are 1-2, coming off a 34-12 victory over Sacopee Valley.
“This is a big one Friday night,” said Dionne, “as is the following week as we battle for possible playoff position.”
Traip is led by quarterback Chris Czachor, who threw for over 1,200 yards as a junior.
