Boothbay football has first loss of season
Sacopee Valley knocked Boothbay off its undefeated perch Sept. 30. Sacopee Valley defeated Boothbay 20-0 in Hiram during a club football contest. The Hawks scored three touchdowns and out-gained Boothbay 313 yards to 163 in total offense.
In the running game, Boothbay averaged 6.7 yards per carry. Seahawk ball carriers rushed for 149 yards on 22 attempts. But 82 of those yards came on two plays. With the exception of running back Bryan Otero’s 40-yard run and fullback Carter Babcock’s 42-yarder, the Sacopee Valley defense grounded the Seahawk offense.
Boothbay coach Bryan Dionne credited Sacopee for playing a tough, physical brand of football in handing his team its first loss of the season.
“They were more physical than us up front and we lacked the same energy as we displayed in the season’s first three weeks,” Dionne said. “We’re hoping to learn from this and clean things up in practice this week.”
Sacopee Valley rushed for 248 yards on 47 carries. The Hawks only completed two passes on three attempts for 65 yards. Boothbay’s passing attack fared worse than its rushing game. Quarterback Duncan Drapeau completed two passes on nine attempts for 14 yards. The longest completion was to running back Brandon Andrews for 15 yards. The other went to Babcock for minus one yard.
Boothbay’s next game is a home contest against the Lincoln County club team at 7 p.m. on Oct. 7. The Seahawks are 3-1 this season.
