With all the visitors coming to Boothbay this summer, there is a special one I can't wait to see and hear speak: Paul Doiron, one of Maine's most popular mystery writers! Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library will welcome Doiron to discuss his new book “Pitch Dark” at the Boothbay Harbor Opera House on Aug. 28 at 7:30 p.m.

Doiron is the author of the “Mike Bowditch” series set in the Maine woods. The first book in this series “The Poacher's Son” won both the Barry Award and Strand Critics Award. He was also nominated for the Edgar Award for Best First Novel. His second, “Trespasser,” won the 2012 Maine Literary award. His novels have gone on to receive numerous awards.

The Bowditch series includes:

“The Poacher's Son” (2010) “Trespasser” (2011)

“Bad Little Falls” (2012) “Massacre Pond” (2013)

“Bone Orchid” (2014) “Precipice” (2015)

“Widow Maker” (2016) ”Knife Creek” (2017)

“Stay Hidden” (2018) “Almost Midnight” (2019)

“One Last Time” (2020) “Dead by Dawn” (2021)

“Hatchet Island” (2022) “Dead Man's Wake” (2023)

“Pitch Dark” (2024) has received star awards from Kirkus, Booklist, and Publisher's Weekly. Mystery and Suspense Magazine said “Suspense, murder, and danger are expected from Paul Doiron's “Mike Bowditch” series and “Pitch Dark” brings the action and intensity to a new level.

You don't need to read the series in order, but the stories do follow the early life of Bowditch as a troubled game warden to his maturity as a law enforcement officer.

Doiron is a Maine native. He attended Yale University graduating with a degree in English. He has an MFA in creative writing from Emerson College. He is a former member of the Maine Art Commission and past chair of the Humanity Council. Currently he is Editor Emeritus of Down East and a Registered Maine Guide specializing in fly fishing. He lives on a trout stream in Coastal Maine with his wife.

Happy reading mystery lovers!
