Boothbay Harbor Rotary Club
Last Thursday we welcomed the Boothbay Region High School Class of 2024. It's an annual event, but each year it's always so special. We get to meet the graduating seniors, hear their plans, thank them and applaud all they have accomplished. The BRHS seniors have great plans, several are going to Maine Maritime Academy, several to University of Maine in Orono. (Linda Clapp’s Alma mater). Several to colleges in other states. One graduate is going into the Coast Guard, several going to technical school including the class valedictorian, Jordan Chamness. We usually award four $2000 “Service Above Self” scholarships each year, but because this year's class participated in and initiated so many great service projects we just had to award five scholarships. It does our Rotarian hearts good to hear these young people embrace changing the world through service.
This week we're having a clubhouse yard clean-up day. We're hoping to start around 5-5:30. Bring rakes, clippers, gloves, shovels, weed whackers, any instrument of yard destruction. We'll get the place in tip top shape in no time. Then we'll break for dinner and a short business meeting.
The Windjammer Days Float Committee is meeting at 4:30, this Thursday, before we start doing yard work. Karen Pritchard is leading the committee, should be fun.
The Rotary Club Barn is open every Saturday from 8:30 to 11 a.m. A great place to find gently used furniture, tools, boats, lamps, dishes, well just about anything. We are accepting donations, just call or text Deb at 207-380-3550 for pick up or drop off plans.
If you're interested in the work and fun of Rotary, join us any Thursday for dinner and a fun meeting.
