Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club hosts 2013 Junior Olympics
The Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club and Jonathan Foot, President of Northeast Sailing Association, have announced that BHYC has been selected to host the 2013 Junior Olympics sail event. To be held on the 15th and16th of July, the event will bring 150 junior sailors from all of the New England states and from all over the USA and foreign countries as well.
Neil Newton Commodore of BHYC and Andy Holmes, Past Commodore and Junior Program Chair, have announced that Bob McCann will work with them and chair the event. McCann will also chair the Maine State Opti championships which BHYC will also host August 1 and 2.
Junior Olympic sailors will race in two classes of boats, the Optimist Pram, and the venerable exciting 420 Class. The races will span over two days and are an exciting spectator sport, much of which can be seen from various coastal locations.
The races are a major economic boon to area business as it will generate many hotel room nights and major restaurant and shopping opportunities.
