Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club
Another busy week has ended and we are in the midst of full out operations with Windjammer events galore in town and BHYC events at every turn here in West Harbor. It is good to see the Junior Program boats on the water morning and afternoon and what a splendid turnout last Sunday for the One Design Races and the first of the Commodores Cup Series.
The One designs (9 strong) proved once again the sailing prowess of Patty Berger who took the prize in her Wildfire. John Giles garnered second in his The Reach, and the Commodore’s son Erick and wife took third in Charisma.
Ken and Ginny Colburn took top honors in the Commodores Cup series event with second place going to Jeff Curtis in Silkie (a J-80) followed by two other J-80s, Bill Hunt’s Firebolt and Chuck Koch’s Breakaway. Sunfish won the Cruising Division. A complete story of the race appears elsewhere in the Register.
Monday was a busy day with duplicate bridge, balance for boaters, the writing group, and to top it all off an ice cream social for the Junior program kids Monday night.
Friday at the weekly drawing, three sets of members names were drawn and none were present so this week’s prize will be $500 in dining room credits. If you had been here Deanna and Toby Clarkson, Dick and Bonnie Stevenson or J.H. Russell and Jana, you would have been winners.
Busy dinner nights were noted for both the roast beef special and for fireworks night. Speaking of fireworks, light of another variety will highlight Saturday evening as a Lighted Boat Parade featuring many BHYC vessels will conclude the Windjammer weeks events. Next Sunday is the annual Round Southport race and Sunday Evening is the featured Wine Dinner – by reservations only.
The Dining Room is open Fourth of July night (even though it is a Monday) and there will be late launch service for those who wish to catch the fireworks from their boats. Danny Beal is back on Tuesday night as is the prime rib special.
