Boothbay, Winthrop battle to a 1-1 tie
Two of the top Mountain Valley Conference field hockey teams, Boothbay Region and Winthrop, battled to a 1-1, double overtime tie at Perkins Field, BRHS on Monday, Sept. 12.
Winthrop led at halftime on a goal by Sarah Spahr, assisted by Kinli Dibiase, at the 2:43 mark of the first half. The Ramblers (now 3-0-1) had seven penalty corners and Boothbay (now 2-1-1) had four in the first half.
At the 24:20 mark of the second half, Sydney Meader gathered in a kick save off a shot on goal, and passed to Page Brown, who tapped it in the goal to tie the game.
Winthrop held a 13-7 advantage in penalty corners in the second half and the two eight-minute overtimes but Boothbay’s defense held.
Boothbay was set to travel to Hall-Dale on Wednesday and host Mountain Valley on Friday, Sept. 16 at 4 p.m.
