Boothbay wrestlers win two matches
Wrestling is back at Boothbay Region High School after several years of not having enough team members, and on December 7 at Dirigo High School, the Seahawks won two out of four matches.
Boothbay defeated Madison, 62-17, and Piscataquis Community High School, 46-24. Dirigo defeated Boothbay, 62-17, as did Dexter, 54-15.
Going undefeated for the Seahawks was junior Anthony Maulolo, who won two of his four matches in the 220-pound class by pins.
Howie Carter went 3-1 in the 160-pound class, winning two matches on pins.
Both Maulolo and Carter wrestled independently last season.
Nick Labonte (113-pound class) and Lucas Leighton (285-pound class) also went 3-1 on the day.
The records of seven other wrestlers included: Riley Spear (126-pound class), 2-2; Jude Alamo (138-pound class), 1-3; Brandon Andrews (145-pound class), 1-3; Gabe Purin (152-pound class), 0-1; Killian Miller (170-pound class), 2-2; and Michael Ripley (182-pound class), 2-2.
Team members who did not wrestle on Saturday included Tony Hammond and Camden Spear.
The team is being coached by Boothbay Region High School athletic administrator Allan Crocker, a former BRHS standout wrestler who won over 100 matches in his career.
