BRES boys and girls win first meet of 2015
The Boothbay Region Elementary School cross-country teams won their first meet of the season at Camden Rockport High School on Wednesday, Sept. 9. In addition to the host team, Boothbay runners competed against Appleton, Oceanside and Lincolnville under the hot sun and in humid conditions.
The top 10 runners in the boys' race (48 runners) were: 1. Rowan Kristan, BRES, 14:28; 2. Will Perkins, BRES, 14:34; 3. Chris Hamblett, BRES, 14:44; 4. Eric Andrews, Lincolnville, 15:28; 5. Dillon Mackey, Camden, 15:29; 6. Ryan Russell, BRES, 15:45; 7. Jonathan Genrich, BRES, 15:50; 8. Jamie LaBrecque, BRES, 16:01; 9. Mason Erhard, BRES, 16:20; and 10. Wilson Gray, Camden, 16:20.
Scores: BRES 19, Camden 55, Lincolnville 73, Oceanside 103; Appleton, not enough runners to score.
The BRES girls edged Lincolnville in their meet. Scores were: BRES 38, Lincolnville 40, Camden 73, Appleton 106; and Oceanside, not enough runners to score. There were 47 girls competing. The top 10 runners were: 1. Haley Abbott, BRES, 15:18; 2. Rachel Gentry, BRES, 15:54; 3. Phoebe Root, Lincolnville, 16:06; 4. Glory Blethen, 16:18; 5. Jazmine Balducc, 16:23; 6. Claire Wyman, Appleton, 16:33; 7. Hanna Hallundbaek, Lincolnville, 17:29; 8. Rose O'Brien, Lincolnville, 17:48; 9. Jaden Johnson, Lincolnville, 18:07; and 10. Margaret Richmond, Camden, 18:09.
"The meet was great," said BRES coach Hildy Johnson. "Well run and run well by the runners. The first meet is always exciting as the first time runners (10 this year) get their base times to build on and the return runners (14) are anxious to see where they come in versing some of the runners they were edged out by last year ... or ones they edged out last year.
"I foresee a strong season with these 24 runners. They are now ready to practice more seriously and meet the challenges ahead."
