BRES cross-country teams compete in Camden
The Boothbay Region Elementary School cross-country teams competed in sunny and warm conditions in Camden Sept. 13. The boys came in third and the girls were unable to score as one runner was ill, leaving only four girls competing. Seven Wildcat boys competed in the 2.2-mile race.
There were a total of 76 boys and 71 girls running. Coach Hildy Johnson said her field of runners is dwindling and might by the smallest number she has ever had.
Returning boys are: 8th graders Ryan Clark, Gryffin Kristan, Gabe Barter; seventh graders Slade Balsdon, Sebastian Burdin-Warren, Dylan North, CJ Savastano and Dominick Dow; and sixth grader Mason Paquette.
Our newcomer, Dominick Dow, placed first for the BRES boys and 3rd overall. He was followed by Kristan in 6th place, Clark in 7th place followed by Balsdon, Burdin-Warren, Savastano and North.
Grace Campbell is the returning 8th grade girl and Suzie Edwards, a 7th grader, has returned for another season. The new 6th grade girls are Lizzie Pearce, Maddie Orchard and Laura Chapman.
Orchard placed first for the BRES girls followed by Chapman, Campbell and Lizzie Pearce. Edwards, who was ill, is back with the team.
Our next meet is home on Thursday, Sept. 20. Boys run first at 4 p.m.
