BRES hosts season’s only home meet
Boothbay Region Elementary School hosted its first and only cross country meet of the season Thursday, Sept. 14. The five schools attending were Great Salt Bay Community School, Lincolnville Central School, Medomak Valley Middle School, Appleton Village School and Wiscasset Elementary School.
"It was a beautiful day to run our 2.3 mile course,” said BRES Coach Hildy Johnson. “One of the longest (courses) in the Busline league.”
Johnson said BRES has added 14 new runners this season: in grade six, Maya Pangburn, Suzie Edwards, Madison Peters, Slade Balsdon, Duncan Hardwick, Dylan North, CJ Savastano, and Sebastian Burdin-Warren; in grade seven, Nora Conlin, Gabe Barter, Ryan Clark, Conner Dover and Alec Murphy; and Quincy Coombs in grade eight.
“These runners join an already strong group of runners,” said Johnson.
The boys’ team edged out Great Salt Bay 35-47 to win its meet. Gryffin Kristan took second place in 16:32. Chase Carty took fourth in 16:59 and Quincy Coombs took ninth in 17:35. Lucas Hardwick came in 11th in 17:41; Ryan Amaral, 12th, 17:46; Ryan Clark, 17th, in 18:47; Sam Page, 21st, in 19:33; CJ Savastano, 42nd, in 22:27; Duncan Hardwick, 45th, in 23:01; Conner Dover, 46th, 23:02; Alec Murphy, 48th in 23:15; Gavin Carlson, 49th, in 24:22; Slade Balsdon, 50th, in 24:42; Dylan North, 52nd, in 26:30; Gabe Barter, 57th, in 30:30; and Sebastian Burdin-Warren, 58th, in 34:09.
More than half the members of the girls’ team are new to the team. Some were racing for the first time. The team put up a great fight against its rivals. Jazmine Balducci took fifth place in 18:39. Grace Campbell took 16th place in 20:35; Nora Conlin, 22nd, in 21:25; Grace Campbell, 47th, in 26:07; Madison Peters, 62nd, in 30:24; Suzie Edwards, 69th, at 34:52; and Maya Pangburn, 71st, in 36:12.
Said Johnson, “BRES is again looking forward to a successful season with everyone improving their times and having fun at the same time!"
