BRHS cross country trounces rivals on home turf
The Seahawks raced against Hall-Dale, Winthrop and Lisbon on its own stomping grounds for the only home race of the season. Both the boys and girls teams took first for the fifth year and third year straight, respectively.
“It was a clean sweep,” said Coach Nick Scott. “For the first time this season, the Lady Seahawks were able to field a scoring team and bested runner-up Winthrop by five points for the victory.”
The meet began with ladies racing first. Junior and freshman sisters Faith and Glory Blethen took first and second with times of 22:01 and 22:11. Haily Abbott took a close third place in 23:09. Sophomore Delly Clarkson took 14th place in 31:35 while newcomer freshman Zada Smith took 15th in 32:36.
“Also having a strong race this evening,” Scott said as he rattled off the girls’ achievements, “was Delly Clarkson, whose finish this year was roughly seven minutes faster than a year ago.”
The boys team put up seven of the top 10 finishers with junior Blake Erhard leading the pack at 17:44. Senior Kyle Ames followed shortly behind with a time of 17:53 while freshman Mason Erhard and junior Will Lebrecque rounded out the top five with times of 20:36 and 21:12, respectively. Junior Bayly Gaughan-Carrasco, freshman Fox Elder and sophomore Patrick Conlin took eighth, ninth and 10th places with times of 21:22, 21:29 and 21:31. Ryan Russell took 12th place in 21:55; Kaleb Ames took 19th in 22:43; Graham Harris took 25th in 23:10; Sam Burnham took 26th in 23:34; and Quinn Ranta took 29th in 24:23.
Scott noted the significance of the boys team walking away with 17 points by pointing out that the lowest possible score can only be 15.
Hall-Dale was the runner-up, with 68 points, Scott said.
