Caron wins Hood scholarship
On May 3, Boothbay Region High School senior Sarah Caron found out she won the Hood Sportsmanship Scholarship and will receive $5,000 toward her college tuition. Caron is one of three recipients in Maine to be awarded the scholarship.
In April, Caron competed with hundreds of student athletes from high schools all throughout Maine. After submitting an essay, Caron then needed people to vote for her on the Hood website. She ended up receiving enough votes to make it to the top 10 and advanced to the interview stage that whittled the contestants down to three winners.
“When I got the phone call telling me that I made the top 10, I didn't know what to do,” Caron said. “I just started calling people because I was so excited. It was crazy!”
Caron will be attending Wheaton College in Norton, Mass., where she plans to study marine biology and play basketball.
