Championship season begins Saturday in Augusta
The Seahawks cross country championship season begins Oct. 18 at UMaine Augusta, where 11 teams will vie for the Mountain Valley Conference title.
The Boothbay boys are well-placed for another title win on Saturday, having dominated the MVC so far this year.
In its last regular season meet on Oct. 8 in Lisbon, the Boothbay boys team again bested the field, winning the team competition with 23 points, followed by Lisbon, 38, St. Dom’s, 88 and Madison, 88.
Joey Paolillo led the Seahawks scorers (2nd, 18:07), followed by Kyle Ames (3rd, 18:17), Kyle Alamo (4th, 18:40), Matt Burnham (6th, 18:45) and Kyler Carty (8th, 18:48).
Rounding out the top seven, Trystan Mercier finished 11th at 19:14 and Shane Johnson 18th at 20:26.
Saturday’s MVC meet in Augusta will be the last time the entire team will compete in an event this season. In the regional and state finals, only the top seven runners are allowed to participate.

Only two girls teams had enough athletes to score at the Lisbon meet. St. Dom’s won the event, with 22 points, followed by BRHS with 36.
The MVC championship meet will be held at the UMaine Augusta campus. Races begin at 10 a.m.
