Boothbay Region High School sophomore Laura Chapman advanced to the Round of 16 in the Maine schoolgirl singles tournament in Lewiston by defeating Mary Hatt of Maranacook, 6-1, 6-2 on Friday, May 19.

In the Round of 16, she battled Becca Naftoly of Berwick Academy for three sets but lost 6-4, 2-6, 1-6. Naftoly went on to lose in the quarterfinals to Coco Meserve of Brunswick, 1-6, 4-6.

This was the second year Chapman had advanced to the Round of 16.
