‘Chef,’ ‘And So It Goes,’ ‘America: Imagine the World Without Her,’ this week at The Harbor Theatre
Chef Carl Casper (Jon Favreau) suddenly quits his job at a prominent Los Angeles restaurant only to find himself in Miami, teaming up with his ex-wife, his friend and his son to launch a food truck. “Chef” also stars John Leguizamo, Sofía Vergara and Bobby Cannavale. “Chef” is rated R (for language). It plays through Thursday, Aug. 7, at 7 p.m.
“And So It Goes” teams Michael Douglas and Diane Keaton for the first time in their long careers, directed by Rob Reiner (“When Harry Met Sally,” “The Princess Bride,” “This is Spinal Tap,” “Stand By Me,” etc.)
It's the story of a real estate agent Oren Little (Douglas), willfully obnoxious to anyone who might cross his path. He wants nothing more than to sell one last house and retire in peace and quiet — until his estranged son suddenly drops off a granddaughter he never knew existed and turns his life upside down. Clueless about how to care for a sweet, abandoned nine-year-old, he pawns her off on his determined and lovable neighbor Leah (Keaton) and tries to resume his life uninterrupted. But little by little, Oren stubbornly learns to open his heart to his family, to Leah, and to life itself.
“And So It Goes” is rated PG-13. It plays Friday, Aug. 8 and Saturday, Aug. 9 at 7 p.m.; Sunday, Aug. 10 at 3 and 7 p.m.
“America,” a political documentary by Dinesh D’Souza, maker of “2016 Obama’s America,” based on his book, “America: Imagine the World Without Her.” D'Souza examines various complaints about America and explores what the world might look like without America as a nation. “America” is rated PG13 and plays Monday, Aug. 11 through Wednesday, Aug. 13 at 7 p.m. Watch the preview at www.americathemovie.com.
