Dear Editor:

Congratulations to the outstanding seventh and eight grade girls' and boys' basketball teams at Boothbay Region Elementary School. Special kudos go to Coach Deetjen and his championship seventh grade girls' team.

More kudos to Coach Dan Bryer's seventh grade boys' team, which finished as runner-up, and Coach Jason Lorrain's eighth grade girls' and boys' teams. The girls team finished as a runner-up as well.

I (Grampy) saw so much improvement during the season from each player as these teams developed their teamwork skills.

As “Grammy/Grampy” parents of an eighth grade team member, we would like to add words of unbiased praise to that team of “young ladies,” alphabetically, Angie, Cagney, Colette, Elisabeth, Erica, Kate, Lexi, Mackenzie, Nicole, Tori and manager Carmen. You all did “some wicked good” this year. Additionally, we can't give Coach Lorrain enough accolades on how he personally coached all ten of his “teenage daughters.” He is the epitome of a coach's coach. His courtside demeanor was always calm and professional.

Last, but certainly not least, we would like to thank the wonderful group of calm, cool and supportive parents and grandparents that we met. I was so impressed with how these, mostly ladies, were so restrained in their cheering. Sitting next to Coach Miller was always an informed delight as well as Coach McKenna's (sitting in back of me) play-by-play analysis – Esse Quam Videre!
