Cougars defeat Seahawks with four second-half goals
Boothbay trailed by only one goal halftime but the host Dirigo Cougars went on to outscore the Seahawks, 4-1, in the second half and won, 6-2, in Class C field hockey action at Dixfield Wednesday, Sept. 26.
Sophomore Cortney Meader gave the Seahawks a 1-0 lead before Sophia Jaques and Taylor Bryant answered with goals for Dirigo in the first half.
Senior Riley Sullivan scored to tie the game early in the second half before the Cougars went their scoring spree. Kailey Hackett scored three goals, Jaques two and Bryant one for the 7-4 Cougars.
Boothbay dropped to 3-8 on the season with the loss. The Seahawks are in eighth place in the Class C North standings as of Tuesday, Oct. 2.
Monday’s home game against Winthrop was postponed and will be rescheduled. After a scheduled trip to Hall-Dale on Wednesday to face the 2-10 Bulldogs (9th place), Boothbay is scheduled to host Telstar on Tuesday, Oct. 9 at 3:30 p.m. in its last regular season game.
