Cougars swat Seahawks in 4-3 comeback
The Boothbay Region High School field hockey team took a tough 4-3 loss to Dirigo Oct. 6 after a 3-0 lead in the first half.
“Sometimes they lose momentum at the end. I think that’s what happened,” said coach Skyler Davis. He added, confidence is a significant factor for the team.
Seahawk Avery Barter opened up scoring in the second quarter with an unassisted shot. Kari Blake followed closely behind with a goal, assisted by Lily Nein.
In the third quarter, Grace Averill put Dirigo on the board with an assist from Libbie Errington. Magen Burge responded with the Seahawks’ final point, assisted by Blake.
Lana Waite scored for the Cougars in the fourth quarter, assisted by Errington. With 6:36 minutes to go in the game, Emily Woods tied the game with an unassisted score for Dirigo. The Cougars sealed their win with a penalty shot by Waite shortly after.
Davis gave a nod to goalie Cass Amaral, who had 14 saves this game and over 100 for the season. “Shout out to her, she’s amazing. They are very lucky to have a goalie like her,” Davis said.
Davis also complimented Blake for her “amazing stickwork.”
The loss puts the Seahawks at 2-8 for the season, but Davis said she is seeing better performances overall.
“We’re getting better and hopefully at the end of the season we can pull through,” she said. “We’re just going to keep chugging. We’ve already won more than last season. We’re just going to keep going and improving.”
