Dirigo defeats Boothbay, 35-14
Dirigo’s team strength, speed and overall depth proved too much for the Boothbay Region Seahawks to handle Oct 16 in Class D North football action. Dirigo of Dixfield defeated Boothbay Region High School, 35-14.
Boothbay Region coach Bryan Dionne said Dirigo has one of the league’s top quarterback and coaching combinations.
“This is a squad with 11 seniors. They also have quarterback Riley Robinson, who is one of the best players in the league. And coach Jim Hersom is the best coach in the league. He does an outstanding job with a talented and experience squad.”
Boothbay Region’s touchdowns were scored by wide receiver Jacob Leonard on a pass an end Abel Bryer scored the second on a run.
Boothbay Region is 1-6 in league play. The Seahawks finish the regular season on Oct. 23 with a road contest against Winthrop/Monmouth. A win would likely propel Boothbay Region to eighth in the Crabtree Standings and a loss would leave them in eighth, according to Dionne.
Win or lose, Dionne expects his team will qualify for the playoffs.
