Dirigo takes down Boothbay
Emily Woods scored four goals and the Dirigo Cougars went on to defeat the Boothbay Region Seahawks, 6-1, on Perkins Field, BRHS on Tuesday afternoon.
The teams battled to a scoreless tie after the opening 15-minute quarter but Woods scored three times in the second quarter to give the Cougars a comfortable halftime lead.
Dirigo scored two more times in the third quarter, including a penalty stroke goal by Jayce Brophy.
Boothbay’s lone goal came at 7:53 of the third quarter when senior co-captain Sydney Blake made a crossing pass in front of the goal and junior Magen Burge pushed the ball past the Dirigo goaltender.
A late goal by Dirigo’s Grace Averill provided the final score.
Boothbay goalie Cass Amaral had 16 saves and Dirigo goalie Alivia Ellis had three saves.
Dirigo (6-3) had 19 penalty corners and Boothbay had eight.
The Seahawks, now 1-7, play their third game in three days today with a game at Hall-Dale (2-4-1). Their next home game is Monday, Oct. 3 at 3:30 against Mountain Valley (2-6-1).
