Dirigo upsets Boothbay, 2-1
Sophie Jacques drove home a shot from the top of the striking circle to give the Dirigo Cougars a 2-1 lead at the 2:28 mark of the second half and the visitors went on to win, 2-1, over the Boothbay Region Seahawks (5-2-1) at Perkins Field Sept. 21.
The Cougars (4-4), who lost at home to Boothbay, 5-3, to start the season, pressured Boothbay in the second half. Boothbay took the lead into halftime after freshman Hali Goodwin scored in front of the goal on an assist from junior Page Brown at the 1:41 mark.
Ashley Perreault tied the game at the 14:17 mark of the second half with an unassisted goal.
The final few minutes saw a slew of penalty corners as both teams tried to break the tie. Overall, Boothbay led in penalty corners, 17-8.
Boothbay will try to get back on the winning track at Winthrop on Friday, Sept. 23 at 3:30 p.m.
